The Story Tree

Marcie Hoye Cumberland has just published her first novel, entitled, "The Tree at the Top of the Hill". Reaching this tree, which overlooked their Texas cabin, had been Timothy Collins dream since the morning his father told him the world awaited him just beyond it. He also told his son he must grow bigger and stronger in order to take care of his mother and sisters. Then Timothy's father left to take part in the battle raging between the North and the South.

Come Join Us Under the Story Tree

Where is the Story Tree? Just look around. Somewhere at your school, church, museum, campground, festival or park you’ll find the Story Tree. It may be an oak, a maple or an apple tree. Sometimes it’s a brightly colored Christmas tree in the corner of a room or a palm tree in the dessert. A couple of times it’s been drawn or painted on a wall. And the biggest Story Trees of all have been in the imaginations of families just like yours.

Under the Story Tree, Jim and Marcie Cumberland bring you tales of wagon trains moving West, miners searching for Gold in California, and other true stories of children and adults who were part of our country’s expansion.

Miz Marcie will tell you about the almost unknown person who really knew gold had been discovered and show you what it was like to be in school in the 1850s. And Big Jim C. will relate true, almost true, and probably not true tales gathered from all over the West and the world. (It will be up to you to figure out which are the Tall Tales.)

Each Story session is unique. Much of what goes on during sketches depends on your responses. Come prepared to laugh. Be ready to gasp. And be sure to bring your singing voices to drown out Big Jim! Most important of all, bring your imagination so you can be transported to other times and places.

Jim and Marcie Cumberland travel the country, working in unusual places, at fun jobs, collecting stories along the way. They are always seeking something new to tell or write about. Why not follow the pages of these stories and discover why they should turn with you Under the Story Tree?
